As a woman who tries to read her bible constantly, there are many things I find helpful both as a mother and as a woman. I find that there are a lot of encouraging women in the bible, Ruth, Leah, Mary, and Sarah. The list could go on, on the days I feel down I turn to the Lord the best I can for help. It isn’t always easy, as most Christians know, living a life of faith isn’t peaches and cream. It isn’t what others presume it is. It still has it’s trials and errors that we face. However there is always one scripture I turn back to when I feel down as women to three beautiful wild blessings.
The proverbs woman isn’t suppose to be the picture perfect or the ideal woman. But we are all her! Every single one of us is her, we may not always see it but we are. This woman that they are talking about is every single one of you, a great mother, a great wife and/or a great woman. The many things that you can do, the talents you posses, and the will to strive for better things.
The wife of noble character isn’t a gold bar standard you should be “living up too” because you my dear friend are her. The proverbs 31 woman is a woman of many traits and has many abilities, including; seamstress, merchant, manager, and manufacturer. She is a entrepreneur of many things. She has the ability to laugh at the days to come while being clothed in strength to face the storms of life ahead.
So you see you are you! The things you do for your family is beyond anything anyone could think of. We cook, clean, work, play with the kids, drive everyone everywhere, and more. You have the ability to learn so many things on top of what you already know, you sacrifice so much for everyone else’s happiness.
Our strength and dignity don’t come from our accomplishments or from anyone else. They come from our love and respect for heavenly Father who loves us so dearly. He sees what we are, who we are, and the great things we can accomplish.
Notice how the proverbs never once mentioned how she looked, her appearance, or her physical beauty. Our true worth and beauty comes from within, it comes from the big guy upstairs who created us. It is said “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” Psalms 139:13
He knows you better than anyone else can hope to.
Know that you are “Fearfully and wonderfully made”, so don’t see the woman in proverbs as a role model to imitate to every detail perfectly but as inspiration to be all that we are called to be.
For is says;
” A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.
She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.
She selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.
She is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from afar.
She gets up while it is still night;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her female servants.
She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.
She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.
In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.
When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
She makes coverings for her bed;
she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
Her husband is respected at the city gate,
where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.
She makes linen garments and sells them,
and supplies the merchants with sashes.
She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
“Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
Honor her for all that her hands have done,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
Know that you ARE worth far more than rubies, know that you are resilient and relentless. You are loved, appreciated, and seen. You are enough. When you set your mind to it you can achieve anything with that heart from God. He equipped you with everything you need. You are generous, smart, funny, and blessed. Motherhood and marriage often get the best of us, it isn’t all sunshine and rainbows but when we know that with God nothing can stop us we are truly a proverbs woman.
